The Business of Same Day Deliveries is a first-of-its-kind book about a little-known segment of the transportation industry. Same day deliveries, also termed urgent or time
sensitive deliveries, are provided by thousands of small businesses throughout the country called couriers and messengers, local truckers, or freight forwarders that specialize in next available flight air shipments. Whatever their titles, these companies all deliver freight the same day it is picked up, in contrast to the major overnight services that deliver cargo a day or more after pick up.

Most of the same day companies have revenues of less than $1 million a year and generally do not employ heavily experienced financial employees. This book, therefore, addresses financial systems, reports, and controls designed to make these companies more profitable. The book provides pricing criteria, various income statement formats, a chart of accounts specific to the delivery industry, key operating data that must be monitored, and many other topics that have an effect on profitability. Additionally, the book identifies factors important when buying a business, as well as pitfalls to be anticipated when selling a business.
